Bruce Bowen is praised on best fan sign ever.
A Spurs' fan was spotted at the NBA finals game last night with possibly the best sign of all time. Sorry I couldn't find a picture of it just yet, but I just found it too important to not post. It's actually on the 'Spurs' championship video' I recently posted, at the very end. It read, to some extent, '70% of the world is covered by water, and the rest is covered by Bruce Bowen.' The truest statement I have ever heard.
This is from the Spurs "unofficial" Blog, and I put this up because I couldn't have said it any better myself: "I love that Bruce Bowen held Lebron James to 32-90 in the Finals. 32-90. And he did it while playing over 40 minutes a game, committing a total of only 7 fouls and never once giving anyone any reason to question the cleanliness of his play." That by itself speaks volumes. I know Tony Parker won the Finals MVP, but I would have loved to see Bruce get the award. I know it wouldn't have been possible, but he epitomizes everything that the San Antonio Spurs are by how his hard work gets practically unnoticed by everyone except for the NBA purists. Bruce Bowen, I salute you and Lebron you got BOWNED.

Now... Quotes on Tim Duncan
"Don't compare anybody to Duncan. He's a different guy. He has a better supporting cast than in the past. From an offensive standpoint, he doesn't have to carry the load as he has in years past, but he is still Tim Duncan ."
- Avery Johnson
“Duncan deserves everything he gets, as far as I'm concerned. It's frustrating guarding Tim Duncan even if they think he's not getting the calls. He's a hell of a basketball player.”
Doc Rivers quotes
“When I watch NBA games now on TV, what I see the most are opportunities for the big men that they are not taking advantage of. That's what I told Tim Duncan when I saw him this year at the Finals in San Antonio. When you go into the lane and they take away the jump hook, just reverse pivot. The baseline is there.”
Hakeem Olajuwon quotes
“That connection stays strong as long as Tim Duncan is playing,”
Larry Davis quotes
FINAL THOUGHT... TIM DUNCAN IS THE BEST POWER FOWARD / CENTER HYBRID OF ALL TIME

The Dreaded 2-3-2
I just want to take a second to talk a little crap about the format of the NBA Finals, which is 2-3-2. Meaning that the home court advantage team gets the first two games at home and the last two, if the series goes to seven games. So, is this really home court advantage? Personally I wouldn't want to be the home team because if home court stays true, the home team will be facing an elimination game during game six.
Every other series in the NBA playoffs is in a 2-2-1-1-1 format. In this case, if home court stays true, the only elimination game the home team will face is game seven. So, why does the NBA do this. There are several theories, but the only one that is valid is the reason of the sports media. When the format is 2-3-2 they only have to make two trips from city to city.
I think this is total crap. For example, I believe one of the main reasons why the Dallas Mavericks lost the NBA Finals last year to the Miami Heat is because of the format of the series. Everyone won their respective home games... (games one-five) and then the Mavs faced an elimination game in game six. We all know that game five of an NBA playoff series is the most crucial when the series is close and especially when is is tied 2-2 and in the NBA Finals this (game 5) is not on the home team's court like every other series. But I guess we have to cater to the worthless media. I know it's tough for them to travel... Another one of David Stern's brilliant ideas.

SI Covers
Lets compare last week's Sports Illustrated cover to this week's.

This week...
Now... Obviously, both of these covers and inside articles on Lebron and Duncan are in praise of some great basketball players, but I just want to take a moment to discuss them. The one on Duncan is four pages long and the one on Lebron is nine pages long. Hmm... maybe this means something. Oh yeah... and a whole half of a page in Duncan's article has a insert about Lebron. Wow. I know no one in the country wants the Spurs to win another championship (outside of San Antonio), but does the media really have to be that biased and subjective. So, it's "present vs. future" is it? More like good vs. bad the Spurs vs. Lebron or the best in the West vs. any horrible team out of the East. Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers have no chance, and I mean no chance to beat the Spurs in a seven game series. Spurs in five.

TIM DUNCAN IS GOOD AT BASKETBALL
Wow... a Spur is actually on the front of SI... the most underrated superstar in modern NBA history, Tim Duncan. I am sorry, I know Lebron is the man and has given the NBA an extreme boost going into the finals because all of the sheep / tool NBA fans want to see the face of the league do well and win a title, but getting through the Eastern Conference is a cake walk. I know the Pistons are a very good team, but they were just horrible in the series with the Cavs and didn't show any playoff experience.
The story will be different when the Cavs face a real team in Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs, who have beaten the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, and Utah Jazz to get to the finals. All of these teams would probably be the NBA Finals if they were if the Eastern Conference. There is no way, and I mean no way, that the Cleveland Cavaliers would be the finals if they were in the West. The Spurs experience, talent, and physicality will prevail over the one-man show in the Cavs.
THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL BE OWNED BY THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS.

Today [the past couple days] in Sports Nonsense
WHOOOO HOOOO!! I can not believe it is going to be Spurs-Cavs in the NBA Finals. This is not what anyone expected, being that everyone thought it was for sure Spurs-Pistons. I do have to thank Lebron James for getting more people excited about the NBA, although I think that these fans are not the NBA purists who would have loved the great fundamentally sound teams of the Spurs-Pistons (some say dynasties... Spurs are one of the all-time greats)... LeDirk James
LeDirk James, oh oh... I must have meant Lebron James. I mean, I guess I have just been getting the two (Dirk and Lebron) confused lately because they both have been showing some similar characteristics, that being non-clutch. Last night, the Cavs were trailing the Pistons by two points in the last seconds of game one in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals and Lebron decided to pass the ball to Marshall for an open three when he was driving to a practically open basket. We all know that Marshall missed the basket and the Cavs ended up losing.
Today, Lebron has been getting bashed by the media for not taking the shot and being a clutch playoff player, he ended up with 10 points. However, we all need to remember that if Marshall had made the three we would all be talking about how non-selfish Lebron is because he would have ended up with a triple double, being that Marshall's shot would've been Lebron's 10th assist, and the Cavs probably would've won. Well... coulda, shoulda, woulda... Cavs lost and Ledirk James isn't looking so hot right now. Why couldn't Marshall take into account Lebron's legacy before the shot? Geez!

Funny and True: An Inevitable Spurs-Pistons NBA Finals
FTT’s crack team of crack smokers has cranked up the list for all of us who are holding out hope for an NBA playoff final that keeps us from working on the drywall. You know, for the comparative visual excitement.
10. It is inevitable. Might as well, as Bobby Knight says, lie back and enjoy it.
9. By Game Four, after every other possible story of remote human interest is covered, we’ll learn what Nazr Muhammad is up to.
8. There’s always the chance that Bruce Bowen and Robert Horry will embrace their new status as the Worst Basketball Bad Guys Since Hitler, and show up for press conferences in wrestling tights with bad French accents they learned from Tony Parker. Come on, Bruce and Bob. Do it for the kids.
7. The finals could, especially in the wake of the Stoudamire-Diaw-Horry suspension fiasco, put the rare species NBA Apologistia on the endangered list. Since we are frequently in that species, we will then be able to get a big fat check from the government to get free access to NBA League Pass, and maybe some full-time conservation staff to protect us from our natural predator (drywall). And if you doubt it will happen, consider this chilling fact – Democrats control Congress. With the extra money they are going to pay me, I’m going to buy flags to burn at gay weddings. It’s always so festive.
6. Spurs-Pistons could get Mike Brown fired.Unfair for a team that has made the third round? No. If the Cavs stagger past the Nets, they will just continue the least convincing playoff “run” in NBA history. Beating the Washington Wiz without Agent Zero is only marginally more difficult than beating the Washington Generals. The Nets’ best big man is, seriously, Mikki Moore. The judges are not giving them much for the degree of difficulty here.A Pistons-Cavs series could be nearly as unwatchable as Cavs-Nets, leading to an intervention moment for LeBron James and his cohorts. For anyone that misses Young LeBron, the one that passed the ball and gave a crap, this is six months too late, but better late than never.
5. Spurs-Jazz could make Carlos Boozer lovable.Well, no, of course not, but the Spurs have that whole Hitler thing going for them. So does that make the man who destroyed Cleveland more Stalin or Mussolini?(Camera switch, zoom close up, arched eyebrow) Only time will tell.
4. More national media coverage to piss off Detroit. You might remember that in previous years where the Pistons have made the Finals, ABC windbag Jimmy Kimmel was able to get people to write about his show by pointing out that the city might burn to the ground in the event of a Pistons win. Kimmel remains employed, so clearly the gambit worked for him. We’re ready for the onslaught of ratings-starved talk show hosts – ok, not Oprah, but maybe The View, especially if they’re hurting for bombast in a post O-Donnell era – to weigh in with their views on whether Sheed or Duncan is better at making an incredulous face following a foul call, or what game Bowen removes Prince’s gall bladder by accident. Note to media types: Someone, really, needs to play the other side and Mess With Texas. Yes, we have all heard the warnings, but there is free press to be had. Richard Oliver is just itching to take this bait.Plus, they’re all worse than Hitler. Don’t forget that.
3. Tony Parker, in a rap battle on Eight Mile, against Detroit’s finest. This alone could revitalize Eminem’s career, but only if he leaves the D12 guys in the limo.
2. Jerome Bettis needs the TV time. Did you know he is from Detroit?
1. The Pistons in the Finals keeps attention away from the Lions and Matt Millen, who only needs five more years to complete his impossible dream of a team that is entirely composed of wide receivers. From a purely mad scientist perspective, Millen’s research MUST CONTINUE. Stopping it now would BE DISASTROUS!
